Wilson, Simpson Perform Strong in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. – Seattle U softball (7-10) split on the opening day of the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invite on Friday, taking down UMKC, 7-3, in the morning before falling to 6 Oklahoma State, 1-4, in the final game of the day. Both contests took place at Cowgirl Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

STILLWATER, Okla. – Seattle U softball (7-10) split on the opening day of the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invite on Friday, taking down UMKC, 7-3, in the morning before falling to #6 Oklahoma State, 1-4, in the final game of the day. Both contests took place at Cowgirl Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma. 

UMKC CONTEST
The Redhawks came from one run down to pull in front for good during the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double from Tai Wilson. Jasmine Wehn tied the ball game at one after Katie Walling opened the inning with a double and Lily Garcia advanced her to third with a sacrifice bunt. Sydney Frankenberger provided a clutch two-out triple right before Wilson, allowing her to score on the Wilson double. 

Seattle U put up a five spot in the seventh inning to cement the win, highlighted by a bases clearing, three RBI, double from Ava Sin. Karen Spadafora got momentum started with a double to right center, before Frankenberger, Wilson and Mikee Morris all logged singles. Nicola Simpson also grabbed an RBI in the inning, sending a single through the right side to score Sin. 

Stefanie Madrigal was fantastic in the circle after coming in during the second inning, allowing zero earned runs and only four hits in six innings of work. The senior from San Jose, California, struck out six Roos on the day and kept the contest close early on when Seattle U needed to get the offense going.

  • First Inning: UMKC scored one run on two hits. 
  • Fifth Inning: Jasmine Wehn hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Tai Wilson doubled to left field, scoring the second run of the inning. 
  • Seventh Inning: Tai Wilson hit an RBI singled to left field. Ava Sin hit a three-RBI double to center field. Nicola Simpson singled through the right side for an RBI. 
OSU CONTEST
Nicola Simpson started the contest off strong, striking out the side in the opening inning and allowing just one earned run through the first three innings.

Seattle U got on the board in the sixth inning after Frankenberger scored on a passed ball. Frankenberger reached on an error and Tai Wilson marked a bunt single to third to open the beginning sixth. Mikee Morris was just short of hitting a three run shot before it was robbed at the wall.

OSU CONTEST SCORING
  • Second Inning: The Cowgirls scored one run on a home run.
  • Fourth Inning: OSU scored two runs on a home run. 
  • Sixth Inning: Sydney Frankenberger scored on a passed ball. Oklahoma State scored one run on a home run. 
Seattle U will continue the weekend in Oklahoma on Saturday, traveling to Tulsa for matchups with Miami (OH) and Tulsa at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. pacific time.
