SEDONA, Ariz. – Seattle U women's golf captured its first team title of the 2024 season on Sunday afternoon, claiming a share of the Red Rocks Invitational via a team score of 17-over 881. Rivekka Jumagulova led the way on the Redhawks well rounded event play, tying for eighth overall with a three-round total of one-over 217. The event took place at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Arizona, with a yardage of 6,200 on Saturday and 6,065 on Sunday as well as a par of 72.
"It feels great to come out on top knowing we could have performed better," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "I want to thank our team for their commitment both on and off the course as well as the energy they bring to those arenas. This is an intelligent group that puts in a lot of hard work to improve and is interested in learning, respectful of the game and was deserving of a win. One of this groups greatest attributes is our ability to be present in the moment. We will enjoy this victory but know we still need to get to work as post season play approaches."
Seattle U was one of four teams to post the single best round of the event, shooting a one-over 289 during the second round to put itself in strong position for the final round. The Redhawks tied for the best performance in the field of 20 teams on the par fives, shooting an average of 4.80 and a score of four-under. SU also tied for fifth best on the par threes (3.10, two-over) and made birdies (13) as well as tied for sixth on made pars (53).
This marks the second time Seattle U has won this event, claiming the team title during the 2016-17 season with two Redhawks finishing inside the top-seven.
Jumagulova's (73-70-74) performance was helped by her strong play on the par fives, tying for fifth overall with an average of 4.50 and score of two-under as well as tying for eighth in made birdies (four). Also tying for eighth in made birdies, Tsara Ralamboarison grabbed another top-20 finish on the season at four-over 220 (73-70-77). Annika Cruz (77-73-71) improved each round, concluding the tournament with a one-under 71, while Aaryanna Morris (73-78-76) was one of two golfers to convert on an eagle when she did so in the opening round. Shayna Lu rounded out the team on this trip, posting a three-round total of 12-over 228 (75-76-77).
The Redhawks will compete in one final event before the Western Athletic Conference Championships (WAC), heading to back to Arizona for the Bobcat Desert Classic from Apr. 8-10 in Goodyear.
