SEATTLE, WA - Seattle U women's tennis secured the win in their home match against Saint Mary's this Sunday with a score of 4-3. The close match was sealed by a singles win from Freshman Lamija Avdic, bringing the Redhawks up to a 2-2 record on the season.
The Redhawks started out strong with Elena Kraleva and Anastasia Nikolova soaring in their match against the duo of Olivia Rooke and Madison Weekley, defeating them 6-1. Lamija Avdic and Lola Tavcar were also victorious in their match against Stefanie Silva and Sofia Daryaie (6-3), earning the Redhawks the doubles point.
In singles play, Junior Elena Kraleva continued her strong performances with a win against Tian Yu Dong (6-3, 6-0). Freshman Anastasia Nikolova lost a competitive match against Juliette Daries (4-6, 6-7), and Liliya Dimova fell to Stefanie Silva (1-6, 3-6). Freshman Yuna Kadowaki took the victory over Sofia Daryaie (6-4, 6-2), and Jade Quintana dropped her match against Olivia Rook (1-6, 3-6), leaving the score tied at 3-3. Lamija Avdic then came through with her match winning performance in a competitive match against Iman Khan, defeating her 6-4 in the first set and falling 3-6 in the second. Avdic then came back with a dominant 6-0 win in the third set, securing the win for the Redhawks.
"I am happy to see our women's team compete as hard as they did today." says head coach, Kristina Hollander. "We started off strong by winning the doubles point and followed it up by some solid singles performances. Saint Mary's has a strong tennis program, so to get the win against them at home is great." she continues.
The Redhawks will continue competition with a neutral site match against New Mexico on Friday, February 9 in Spokane.
