QUICK HITS

  • Seattle U had a four-game win streak snapped on Thursday, falling 81-80 in overtime to UTRGV in Edinburg, Texas.
  • The game marked the third overtime outing of the season. Seattle U also lost to Washington (Dec. 17) in extra time while earning a win over LaTech (Dec. 20) in overtime. The Redhawks are now 2-2 in OT under Head Coach Chris Victor.
  • Alex Schumacher led the Redhawks with 25 points, a season-high for the senior guard. He added six assists and four rebounds to his line.
  • Kobe Williamson added 16 points and John Christofilis had 11 to round out a trio of double-digit scorers.
  • The Redhawks shot an even 50% from the field, but managed just 3-of-16 from three.
  • Following a stretch of six games where they hit between eight and 11 threes per game, the Redhawks have managed just 5-for-34 over the past two outings.
  • The Redhawks are now 2-5 in games decided by five points or less. The collective total in their six losses is just 17 points, or an average of 2.8 ppg.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS UT ARLINGTON

  • Seattle U and UT Arlington have just four previous meetings in program history with the Redhawks winning the last three meetings.
  • Seattle U swept the home-and-home series last year, winning 76-61 in Arlington and 80-56 in the regular-season finale in Seattle.
  • The teams had last faced off in a home-and-home series during the 2012-13 season. That season marked Seattle U's first in the Western Athletic Conference while the Mavericks were in the midst of a one-year stint in the league. Each team would win on the opposing team's court that year.

MILESTONE MARCH
A trio of Redhawks are racking up stats and closing in on significant milestone markers.

  • Cameron Tyson checks in with 1,823 career points, 177 from 2,000 for his career. With 15 regular season games remaining, Tyson would need to average just over 11 ppg to achieve the feat.
  • Tyson is also 226 points away from 1,500 points scored at Seattle U. The last player to do so was Riley Grigsby (2019-23) who finished with 1,501.
  • Tyson could crack the Seattle U top-10 list in scoring. He is 256 points away from No. 10 Jawann Oldham (1976-80, 1530).
  • Tyson also checks in with 441 career rebounds, needing 59 more to hit 500.
  • Alex Schumacher has scored 1,467 career points, needing 33 more to hit 1,500 for his collegiate career.
  • Schumacher also check in with 463 career rebounds, needing 37 more to hit 500.
  • Kobe Williamson has 486 career rebounds, needing 14 more to hit 500.

NCAA ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS
Tyson's collegiate career total of 389 three pointers in 127 games played ranks third among all active Division I players (and third among players across all three divisions). He trails Texas' Max Abmas (463, 138 games) and Marshall's Kamdyn Curfman (424, 139 games).

RECORD BREAKERS

  • Cameron Tyson drained four threes on Dec. 20 versus Louisiana Tech to bring his Seattle U career total to 241. His third three of the night pushed him past former record-holder Aaron Waite (1988-92).
  • Kobe Williams tallied the 110th block of his career against Northwest on Dec. 9, moving him past previous Seattle U record-holder Aaron Menzies (2015-18) to become the outright record holder.
  • Brandton Chatfield is working his way up the Seattle U career blocks top-10 list as well, checking in at No. 7 with 80.

ATOP THE WAC
In games played through Jan. 11, the Redhawks lead the WAC in 3 team statistical category and 7 individual categories.

FREE THROW STREAK
Cameron Tyson is riding a current streak of 16 made free throws, including a 13-for-13 performance on Dec. 20 versus Louisiana Tech. The streak is the longest for a Seattle U player since Tyson hit 23 consecutive free throws from Jan. 12, 2023 through Feb. 1, 2023.

UP NEXT
The Redhawks make a second straight trip to the state of Texas to wrap up a three-game road swing in Nacogdoches on Thursday, Jan. 18. Tip off at Stephen F. Austin is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
