SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball (1-8, 1-1 WAC) began its final stretch of home games before the Christmas holiday, falling short of completing a second half comeback against San Diego State, 61-69, on Monday morning. The nonconference contest took place at the Redhawk Center on the campus of Seattle U in Seattle.

Mya Moore led the Redhawks on the day, posting 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals, one block and a new career-high six assists. Julianna Walker finished one point shy of Moore, converting on three three-pointers with four rebounds and one assist.

Makayla Moore was the third Redhawk in double figures, scoring 10 points to go along with four rebounds and a new career-high two blocks. Irena Korolenko was one point shy of double-digits, recording seven rebounds and one block as well.

The Redhawks were dominate in the paint this morning, outscoring the Aztecs, 36-12. The Redhawks bench also provided a great punch in scoring, finishing with 17 overall to the Aztecs' five.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Four made three-pointers, two of which came from Makayla Moore, saw the Redhawks take four point lead after the opening quarter. A gritty, back-and-forth second quarter saw the Redhawks down by just two heading into the second half.

Seattle U tied it up right out of the break but the Aztecs brought the lead back up to seven with a 7-0 run shortly after. The Redhawks would bring the deficit to one point three times in the fourth quarter but were unable to take control.

COACH YOUNG'S THOUGHTS
"I loved the effort from our team today," said Young. "If we converted on a few more shots, I think we could have pulled it out but we came up a little short. Hats off to San Diego State; they played a great, physical game and hit the big shots when they needed to. We were unfourtnate in this one to get zero attempts at the free throw line but sometimes that is just how the game of basketball goes. We are going to continue to build and get better every day."
