SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball (1-6, 1-0 WAC) began Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play on Wednesday night, taking down Utah Valley, 58-48, for Head Coach Skyler Young's first career win behind the bench. The first matchup of WAC play took place at the Redhawk Center on the campus of Seattle U in Seattle.

Julianna Walker made her season debut in tonight's contest, scoring 10 points with three made three pointers to go along with three rebounds.
Irena Korolenko provided a strong presence in the paint, grabbing 11 boards and marking a new career-high six steals.
Seattle U did a great job of converting on second chance opportunities, outscoring Utah Valley, 16-5, in the category.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Redhawks and Wolverines went back-and-forth throughout the first half, with Seattle U claiming a four point margin going into the halftime break on this difficult layup from Noemie Bariteau.
Aannah Interrante splashed a three-pointer three minutes into the third quarter to mark a six point opening run for SU's biggest lead of the night at 10.
Everytime the Wolverines looked like they were going to start a comeback Seattle U had an answer. Ahead by just three points at the four minute and two minute marks, clutch three pointers from Julianna Walker and Irena Korolenko sealed the victory.
COACH YOUNG'S THOUGHTS
"We gave all our grit for the full 40 minutes," said Young. "I asked our team in the locker room, are we able to dig deep and find our way through this and we showed that here. This team isn't going to get it done through one individual, its going to take all 13 athletes in order to get it done night in and night out. It was great to get that first win but it's time to build and take what we learned into our next one."
