PREVIEW: WBB hosts Cal Poly, at Portland State

SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball competes in two non-conference matchups this week before Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play begins next week, facing off with Cal Poly and Portland State. The Redhawks will take on the Mustangs to open the week, with tip off scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday night in the Redhawk Center. Seattle U will make the trip south to Portland on Saturday for a single road contest with the Vikings, beginning at 2 p.m. Both contests will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available.

NEW LOOK ON THE BENCH
The 2023-24 Redhawks will feature a complete new look behind the bench, lead by the sixth women's basketball coach in program history, Skyler Young. Young's first staff at the helm of the Redhawks features Michael BrooksRachel SwartzGeAnna Luaulu-Summers and Makala Roper.

Brooks previously coached in collegiate athletics at Bradley University, serving as head coach from 2012-16 with one season as an assistant coach (2011-12), while Swartz returned to the Pacific Northwest after spending last season at Saint Mary's and Luaulu-Summers makes the move to Seattle from University of Oregon where she served as the Ducks' director of creativity and student athlete support. Coach Young retains one familiar face in Roper as she will mark her fourth season as a member of Seattle U. 

HOW TO FOLLOW
All 14 Seattle U home contests this season will be broadcast on ESPN+. For road games, related links to video stream and live stats will be posted on the women's basketball schedule page on goseattleu.com. Fans are encouraged to check the Seattle U Women's Basketball team's official Twitter feed @seattleu_wbb for updates of games in progress as well as news and notes. Russell Brown and former Seattle U Redhawk, Olivia Crawford, mark their second season on the call. 

SCOUTING CAL POLY/PORTLAND STATE
The Mustangs finished with a 10-18 overall record and 7-12 mark in the Big West Conference (BWC) last season and were picked to finish eighth in the Big West Preseason coaches poll this season. Shanele Stires marks her second season behind the bench. The Redhawks trail the all-time series against Cal Poly, 2-3, winning the most recent matchup in San Luis Obispo back in 2019.

The Vikings finished with a 15-16 overall record and 8-10 mark in the Big Sky Conference (BSC) last season and were picked to finish in fifth place this season. Chelsey Gregg enters her third season at the helm of the Vikings program. Seattle U leads the all-time series over Portland State, 9-7, dropping the most recent matchup last season in overtime, 73-80.
