Women's Basketball Suffers Overtime Heartbreak

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Seattle U women's basketball opened the 2023-24 regular season on the road Thursday evening, dropping a heartbreaker in overtime to CSUN, 72-81.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Seattle U women's basketball opened the 2023-24 regular season on the road Thursday evening, dropping a heartbreaker in overtime to CSUN, 72-81.

Irena Korolenko (22) led the Redhawks in points on the night, finishing two shy of tying her career-high as well as recording a new career-high in rebounds with 17. 

Makayla Moore tied her career-high in scoring with 13 and added three steals, while Peyton Howard was the third Redhawk in double figures with 10 points. 

Mya Moore tied her career-best with three blocks and added 10 boards, while Ramona Jagger posted a career-best 10 rebounds in career-high 37 minutes played.

The Redhawks finished with 17 steals on the night, marking seven more than any game last season. 

The Redhawks logged 51 rebounds, marking three more than any game last season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Redhawks opened the contest on a 10-0 run, capped off by an Irena Korolenko layup after four minutes. 

Seattle U finished the quarter with a 16 point lead after shooting 57% (11-19) from the field.

CSUN began their comeback run in the second half, using a last second three pointer to force the overtime period.

Seattle U gave their best efforts over the next five minutes but couldn't hold off the Matadors.
