Redhawks to Face UNLV in WAC Semifinals

LAS VEGAS - 9th ranked and top seeded Seattle U men's soccer is set to face UNLV in the Western Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 8, in Las Vegas. After earning a first round bye, the Redhawks will look to make it back-to-back wins over the Rebels in Sin City.

History with the Rebels 

This will be the 20th meeting all-time between Seattle U and UNLV, and the second meeting in the last two weeks. The Redhawks took down the Rebels in Las Vegas, 2-1, in comeback fashion to end the regular season back on Oct. 29. The win pushed the SU unbeaten streak to eight in the series and improved the overall record to 11-5-3 all-time vs the Rebels. 

Historic Rankings

Seattle U has been ranked 9th in the final United Soccer Coaches' poll of the 2023 regular season. This is the highest ranking in the program's Division I history. They also jumped to 17th in the RPI, which helps seed the NCAA tournament. 

All-WAC Honors

Head coach Nate Daligcon was named Coach of the Year, Charlie Lanphier was named Goalkeeper of the Year, and James Morris was named Offensive Player of the Year at the conclusion of the 2023 regular season. On top of that, a program record eight players were named to the All-WAC First/Second teams. 

Ending the Season Hot

The Redhawks ended the 2023 regular season on an unbeaten streak that has nearly spanned two months. Seattle U went 8-0-2 in their final 10 matches of the season, including an unbeaten 8-0-1 record in conference play. 

Offensive Force

Senior forward James Morris was well deserving of his Offensive Player of the Year honor, leading the team and conference in both goals and assists. After missing the majority of 2022 due to injury, he bounced back with 10 goals and seven assists. His 27 points ranks 15th in the nation.
