SEATTLE – Rivekka Jumagulova of Seattle U women's golf recently represented her home country of Kazakhstan during the 2023 Asian Games. Golfers competed for four gold medals across individual and team events between September 28-October 1 at the West Lake International Golf Course in Hangzhou, China.
"Having the opportunity to represent my home country in the 2023 Asian Games was an indescribable experience and honor," said Jumagulova. "It was quite an overwhelming feeling to step into the arena alongside my fellow athletes knowing everyone was cheering for us here and at home. That feeling of pride and responsibility that comes with wearing my nation's colors brought me so much excitement."
"My biggest takeaway from this event was that sports really do bring people together," explained Jumagulova. "Playing on an international level provided me with the chance to compete against so many athletes from diverse cultures and backgrounds which was an unforgettable experience. Being able to meet so many new people and become friendly with them sets an example for the next generation of representatives. I feel very fortunate to have been able to participate in the Asian games and am grateful for the fulfillment and achievement I felt from it that I will cherish for a lifetime."
"Rivekka has been an amazing addition to our Seattle University program," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "As Seattle U's first-ever WAC Freshman of the Year, Rivekka has elevated our competitive environment and brings a contiguous winning spirit to everything she does. To be able to represent your country in an event this special is something that not many athletes will ever have the chance to do. I hope this once in a life time experience will continue to motivate her in improving her golf game."
