ARLINGTON, TX - Sophomore forward Caroline Penner has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on 10/22. Penner scored four goals between two Redhawk wins over the past weekend.
"Caroline has such great instincts around the goal," said head coach Julie Woodward. "Finally having her 100% healthy has made such a huge difference for our team. She is one of the fiercest competitors I know but at the same time you always see pure joy on her face when she is on the field doing what she loves. As only a sophomore, I already believe she is one of the best forwards in the conference. I am looking forward to watching her in the conference tournament."
Penner opened up her impressive weekend on Thursday by scoring the opener vs Southern Utah less than two minutes into the match. That was followed by her first colligate hat trick on Sunday in a 4-0 win over Utah Tech. The four goal week moved her total for the year to seven, which leads the team and is tied for 5th in the WAC.
This is the first weekly honor for Penner who was named to the WAC All-Freshman and Second Team last season. She is the the fourth Redhawk to be honored this season, but the first to take home the award for an offensive player.
