SEATTLE - No. 13 Seattle U men's soccer concluded their 2023 regular season home schedule by defeating San Jose State, 2-1, Saturday night at Championship Field. Goals from Kotaro Hirokawa and Taketo Onodera sent the senior class out with a victory over the Spartans.
After giving up the opener in the final seconds of the first half, the Redhawks were able to rally with two goals of their own in the second half. For Hirokawa, who equalized the match five minutes into the second half, it was his second goal of the season. While Onodera's game-winner in the 62' was his third on the year.
Match Timeline:
The win kept the Redhawks unbeaten in conference play and gave them a 4-point lead in the race to WAC regular season champions. They now sit at 10-2-3 on the season, their 9th 10+ win season since returning to Division I play back in 2009.
Seattle U will close out the regular season on the road with matchups with Utah Tech (10/26) and UNLV (10/29). The conference's tournament will then begin the following week in Sin City.
