History vs the Thunderbirds and Trailblazers
This will be the second all-time meeting between Seattle U and Southern Utah, with the Redhawks winning the only previous matchup, 4-1, last season in Seattle. Kacey LaBoda scored a brace in the win and Caroline Penner and Mo Nagel each added another as the Redhawks celebrated their 2022 senior day with a big win.
The Redhawks and Trailblazers have met five time prior to this weekend, with Seattle U holding the 2-1-2 advantage. Neither side has been able to secure a win in Seattle however, as the two meetings at Championship Field have ended in draws.
Curran Named Player of the Week
Junior midfielder Jourdyn Curran was named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week following last week's draw with Utah Valley. Curran and the Redhawks held the conference's best attack to no goals as they secured their seventh shutout of the season.
It was the first Player of the Week honor for Curran.
Defense Flying High
The Redhawks have been on an outstanding run of form when it comes to their defense. In their last five matches, they have only conceded one goal and have picked up four shutouts. The play on the field has also led to back-to-back defensive player of the week awards for SU, with Kait Raffensperger and Curran both being selected.
Tight Race in the WAC
Although the Redhawks have clinched a berth in the 2023 WAC tournament, the seeding is still to do be determined. Just four points separate the top-5 in the rankings, with all five teams still having two matches left in the regular season. Utah Valley currently sits atop the table with 17 points while Seattle U is in fifth with 13.
Senior Weekend Celebration
The Redhawks will celebrate the careers of seven seniors on Sunday vs Utah Tech. Hallie Bergford, Sarah Creighton, Kaylee Coatney, Lexi Davis, Taylor Marks, Makinzie Packwood, and Brooke Wilson will all receive their much-deserved flowers prior to kickoff with the Trailblazers.
