Women's Tennis at EWU Eagle Invitational: Tournament Recap

Seattle U's women's tennis team opened their 2023-2024 at the EWU Eagle Invitational over the weekend, hosted by Eastern Washington University. The tournament consisted of singles play, doubles play, and team play.

Seattle U's women's tennis team opened their 2023-2024 at the EWU Eagle Invitational over the weekend, hosted by Eastern Washington University. The tournament consisted of singles play, doubles play, and team play. 

Day 1:
In doubles play, Lola Tavcar and Anastasia Nikolova were defeated by Idaho's Selin Sepken and Naomi Schraeder (4:6) in the round of 16. Lamija Avdic and Yuna Kadowaki also competed in the round of 16, defeating Maria Goheen and Olivia Oosterbaan of Montana (6:2). In the quarterfinals Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova defeated Idaho's Diana Khaydarshina and Valentina Rodas (6:1), while Avdic and Kadowaki fell to Eastern Washington's Kenzington Mann and Anait Arutiunian (4:6).

In singles play, Liliya Dimova won her match against Idaho's Valentina Rodas (6:2, 5:7, 10:6), and Elena Kraleva defeated Diana Khaydarshina of Idaho with a score of 6:1. Anastasia Nikolova fell to Selin Sepkin of Idaho (3:6, 5:7), and Lola Tavcar fell to Idaho's Naomi Schraeder (3:6, 3:6). Lamija Avdic and Yuna Kadowaki both defeated their competition from Montana, Avdic winning her match against Maria Goheen (2:6, 6:3, 5:10) and Kadowaki defeating Olivia Oosterbaan (2:6, 6:2, 10:6). 

Day 2:
In the doubles semifinals, Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova defeated Idaho's Rachelle Starreveld and Ida Johansson with a score of 7:5. In the doubles semifinals consolation Anastasia Nikolova and Lola Tavcar fell to Montana's Maria Goheen and Olivia Oosterbaan (6:7). 

In the singles semifinals Elena Kraleva fell to Rachelle Starreveld of Idaho (2:6), while Liliya Dimova defeated Idaho's Ida Johansson 7:6 and 6:2. This resulted in an overall score of 2:1 for Seattle U, moving them to the final of the draw. In the singles semifinals consolation, Anastasia Nikolova fell to Montana's Maria Goheen (3:6, 0:6), and Lola Tavcar was defeated by Olivia Oosterbaan (4:6, 6:2, 3:6).

Yuna Kadowaki matched up against Idaho's Lena Beckx and defeated her with a score of 7:5 and 7:6. Shuanghui Huang matched up against Montana's Shivika Agrawal and dropped the match with a score of 0:6 and 0:6.

Day 3:
Elena Kraleva and Liliya Dimova  competed in a very close match with Eastern Washington's Isabella Foshee and Scout Mathews, but ultimately were defeated with a a score of 6:7.

In the singles final, Elena Kraleva was defeated by Scout Mathews from Eastern Washington with a score of 5:7. Liliya Dimova matched up against Eastern Washington's Isabella Foshee and dropped the match with scores of 3:6, 6:3, and 7:6. 

Anastasia Nikolova and Lola Tavcar  matched up against Eastern Washington's Leandra Nizetic and Jennifer Kida in doubles play and dropped the match 6:3. Shuanghui Huang fell to Naomi Schraeder of Idaho with scores of 0:6 and 0:6, and Anastasia Nikolova was defeated by Idaho's Diana Khaydarshina (3:6, 4:6).

Yuna Kadowaki was defeated by Montana's Maria Goheen with scores of 5:7 and 5:7, while Lola Tavcar fell to Leandra Nizetic of Eastern Washington with scores of 5:7, 6:4 and 1:6.

The Redhawks will be traveling to Palo Alto, CA to participate in the ITA Fall Regionals this week, which will take place from October 13th to October 17th.
