SALEM -- Seattle U's cross country team completed their second race of the season on Saturday, September 30th at the Charles Bowles Invitational hosted by Willamette University. The women's team finished in second place overall in the 5k with a total of 84 points, while the men's team finished in 8th place in the 8k with a total of 239 points. See the Full Results Here.
Junior Graduate transfer Yonas Sauers gave an incredible performance in his second race for the Redhawks with a time of 23:52.6, breaking the all-time record at Seattle University for the men's 8k, a record previously held since 2005. Sauers beat the previous record of 24:07 by a total of 15 seconds, and he finished in second place overall at the race.
On the women's side, the top two performers from Seattle U were Azalea Groleau and Lilianne Hargreaves, mirroring last year's Charles Bowles Invitational. Groleau finished in fifth place with a total time of 17:25.5, and Hargreaves finished in thirteenth place with a time of 17:51.3. Both women improved their times from last year's meet, with Groleau improving her time by over a minute and beating her personal best time of 18:26. Groleau's new time earns her a fourth place spot in all time school records for the women's 5k. Hargreaves improved her time from last year's meet, 18:21, by about 30 seconds, earning her an eleventh place spot for all-time school records. Senior Emily Harris also gave a notable performance, finishing in seventeenth place with a total time of 18:00.3, tying for fourteenth place in all-time school records and improving her time from a year ago by a minute and eleven seconds. The women's team scored a total of 84 points, trailing only behind the College of Idaho who had a total of 62 points. Seattle U was trailed by Oregon state and the University of Hawaii, who scored a total of 102 and 124 points, respectively. They also finished ahead of the University of Portland and Portland State.
The Redhawks will return to Salem, OR to compete in the George Oja Invite hosted by Linfield University for their next meet on October 14th.
