UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Seattle U women's golf wrapped us its opening tournament of the 2023-24 season on Tuesday, taking 13th out of 19 teams. Tsara Ralamboarison (69-78-71) was the top finisher in her Seattle U debut, tying for 15th with a three-round total of two-over 218. The event took place at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash., on the 6,130 yards course with a par of 72.
"What a fantastic place to begin our 2023-24 season," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "I'd like to personally thank Fergus Hyke of the Tacoma Sports Commission, Amy Walker of the City of DuPont and Zac Keener and the entire staff at Chamber's Bay for providing us with the opportunity to take part in such a fantastic event. I'd also like to send a thank you to Lenin Gali, Les Fondy and Coburn Watson at Leadership & Golf for the opportunity to live stream the event, build friendships with leaders/mentors and provide gifts for all the athletes in attendance. I am also thankful for all the coaches that choose this event and to our entire staff at Seattle U for their support throughout in a very special event. The student athlete experience was greatly enhanced by the live steam as some families were able to watch their athletes participate in a collegiate golf event for the first time ever. We could really see the impact it had on these athletes and their families which was really special to be a part of."
Rivekka Jumagulova (75-75-70) finished tied for eighth in overall made pars (24), while Shayna Lu (76-75-76) tied for third overall in made pars (25). Aaryanna Morris (81-78-79) and Azumi Arai (82-80-79) round out the team score with three-round totals of 238 and 241, respectively.
Annika Cruz (71-80-77), Maria Fedorowycz (77-80-84), Samantha Yates (83-82-84) and Konomi Matsubara (89-81-84) all took part in the event as well competing as individuals.
"I am proud of our team for being able to battle through this one," said Chandonnet. "That first day of 36-holes was physically demanding of them and with this being the first event of the season it couldn't have been easy for them to perform. I thought we performed well overall and look forward to another fantastic season."
Southern California claimed the team title with a tournament record total of 27-under and Amari Avery of Southern California takes home the individual title with a tournament record setting nine-under.
The Redhawks will return to action next week, taking place in the Gonzaga Invitational from Sep. 24-26 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
