FAIRFAX, Va. - Seattle U volleyball begins to its final tournament of the 2023 non-conference season on Friday, taking part in the Patriot Invite, hosted by George Mason, in Fairfax, Va. The Redhawks will take part in three matches over two days with coverage of their George Mason contest streamed live on ESPN+ and the other two featuring just live stats.

QUICK HITS:
The Redhawks finished last weekend with one of their best three set performances in DI history, logging 64 overall with four Redhawks recording double-digit digs. Katlyn Sipes and Merima Smajlovic both led the team with 16 digs each, marking Sipes team-leading seventh double figures dig performance, while Smajlovic ties a career-high and logs her fourth double digit contest.

Arianna Bilby (17 kills, 10 digs) and Elif Teksoy (29 assists, 11 digs) both recorded double-doubles on the afternoon, marking the first time multiple Redhawks have recorded double-doubles in the same game. Bilby grabs her fifth double-double of the season and eighth of her career, while Teksoy marks the first of her career. 

In Thursday's contest,  Bilby tied her season-high with a game-high 21 kills, while Naima Foster (10) continued her historic start with another double digit kill performance. Smajlovic (9 kills, 11 digs) was one kill shy of her second career double-double, while Teksoy notched 41 assists and eight digs.

Arianna Bilby currently holds spots in the NCAA top-50 in attacks per set (18th, 11.55), kills per set (30th, 4.21) and points per set (37th, 4.71). 

Elif Teksoy ranks third in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in assists per set (9.52)  and fourth in total assists (276).

Naima Foster has come out of the gates strong to begin her collegiate career, recording 89 kills and 109.5 points through the first eight matches for the most ever by a Redhawk freshman.

Seattle U currently ranks fourth in aces per set (1.55) and digs per set (14.45) in the WAC.

The Redhawks are 1-0 all-time against Middle Tennessee State, claiming the sole matchup between the two in four sets back in 2015.

This will be the first matchup between Seattle U and George Mason.

This will be the first matchup between Seattle U and Albany. 

This is Michelle Cole's fourth season at Seattle U and sixth overall as a head coach

The 2023-24 academic year marks the 25th season of SU volleyball since the program was reinstated in 1999. This will be their 16th season as a NCAA Division I member and 12th as part of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Seattle U added Felipe Nogueira as an assistant coach this offseason. Nogueira spent the past two seasons as the head coach of the Grand View men's volleyball program, receiving the AVCA Thirty Under Thirty award and guiding the Vikings to a 2022 NAIA National Championship and an overall record of 47-11.
