CHENEY, Wash. - Seattle U volleyball continues its season opening road trip with its second stop at the Eastern Washington Tournament in Cheney, Washington. The Redhawks will take part in three matches over Friday and Saturday with live streaming on ESPN+ and live stats available.

QUICK HITS:
The Redhawks began the season with a three-set sweep of Idaho on Aug. 25. Naima Foster led the team with 12 kills, while Elif Teksoy setted a strong match with 26 assists and Yasemin Elmas led the team in total blocks with five, all doing so in their very first collegiate contest. 

SU fell in the second game of the season against North Dakota State in four sets. Arianna Bilby marked the first double-double of the season with a season-high 15 kills and 10 digs. Elmas and Foster added 10 kills of their own, while Teksoy set a career-best with 38 assists and Katlyn Sipes marked the first 20 dig performance of the year. 

The Redhawks bounced back against UC Riverside with a three-set sweep to end the Idaho VB Classic. Bilby led the team in kills with 13, while Teksoy added another 28 assists and Sipes logged another 10 digs. 

Arianna Bilby and Yasemin Elmas took home Idaho VB Classic All-Tournament honors after stellar performances over the weekend. Bilby's strong weekend has her leading the team in kills (37) and points (42.5/ 4.25 per set) which is good enough for fourth in the conference in kills and third in points. Elmas holds the third spot on the squad in kills (23), recording the WAC's best hitting percentage (.611) and the nation's fifth best hitting percentage by a single player over the opening weekend.

This is Michelle Cole's fourth season at Seattle U and sixth overall as a head coach

The 2023-24 academic year marks the 25th season of SU volleyball since the program was reinstated in 1999. This will be their 16th season as a NCAA Division I member and 12th as part of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Seattle U added Felipe Nogueira as an assistant coach this offseason. Nogueira spent the past two seasons as the head coach of the Grand View men's volleyball program, receiving the AVCA Thirty Under Thirty award and guiding the Vikings to a 2022 NAIA National Championship and an overall record of 47-11.
