LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Seattle U baseball won a thrilling series opener over New Mexico State, 10-8, Friday night. Matt Boissoneault set the career home run mark in the win, sending a no doubter over the left field wall in the 5th.
Boissoneault's 20 career home runs breaks his tie with Dalton Hurd in the modern Seattle U record books. He already broke the single season record in the Redhawks matchup with Washington earlier this week, putting his name next to both records within a couple of days.
The record-breaking shot was the second of the day for the Redhawks, with Michael Tsoukalas getting behind one in the 5th. A 3-run 6th followed, as Seattle U built their lead up to 9-3.
NMSU made it a game when they put up four in the bottom half of the 6th, before adding another in the 8th to make it a 2-run game heading into the 9th.
Cameron Dayton would be called on out of the pen, converting his 4th save of the season to secure the victory. Making his 11th start of the year, Peter Chronowski was credited with his third win after going seven innings.
The win moves the Redhawks to 16-26 on the season and 12-10 in conference play. They have now won five of their last six conference games, as they look to win their fifth straight WAC series tomorrow.
Nestor German will be called on to make the start on the hill in tomorrow's game, as the righty looks to get his team leading fifth win on the year. First pitch from Las Cruces is scheduled for 1pm PT and can be streamed live on WAC International.
