BELLEVUE, WA - Seattle U baseball took down Sacramento State, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. A 2-run homerun by Jackson Lind in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the difference as the Redhawks won their third straight conference series.
"Big series win for the organization," said head coach Donny Harrel. "Our fans were awesome this weekend and the guys really fed off the energy."
Cole Kleckner opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI single to left that brought home Michael Tsoukalas. After the Hornets put up three in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead, Matt Boissoneault would also single to left, scoring Derek Gellos this time as SU cut the deficit to just one.
Leading off the bottom of the 7th, Cameron Dayton doubled to left field before Lind's homerun brought both home to give the Redhawks the lead back. Blake Smith, who came in in the top half of the inning, went the rest of the way to record his team leading 4th win of the season as the Redhawks held off the Hornets.
Despite getting a no-decision, Luke Alwood's start was solid on the mound. The Freshman went 5 1/3 innings, striking out six while giving up just two earned runs.
"Alwood gave us a quality start, Lind had the big blast, and Smith closed the door," Harrel added. "Very proud of the guys and Ryne Hays came off the bench to play stellar defense and secure the win."
Seattle U not only made it three straight conference series wins but have won four of their last five as well. They now improve to 13-23 on the season and to 9-9 in conference play.
