Riverside, Calif. - Seattle U was able to snag the final game in their series with California Baptist, 11-10, Sunday morning in California. Where in the first two games the Redhawks could not gain and maintain their leads, they were able to do just that to salvage the road conference series.
"Really proud of our resiliency today and never giving up in a back-and-forth game," said head coach Donny Harrel after the win.
It was yet another ping pong affair between the two sides, with the lead being exchanged off both team's hot bats. The Redhawks scored the first five runs on the game over their first two plate appearances. That was followed by seven straight for the hosts between the 2nd and 3rd inning to take the lead heading into the 4th.
The Redhawks would tie the game at seven off RBI singles from Jackson Lind and Grant Heiser in the top of the 4th, just to be followed by a solo homerun by the Lancers in the bottom half of the frame.
Michael Tsoukalas kicked off a 3-run inning from Seattle U in the 7th with a 2-run homerun, once again switching the lead back to the Redhawks at 10-8. CBU would once again get a solo homerun in their following at bat, but this time it was out done by Lind's in the 8th, as the Redhawks would hold onto the lead at take the game by a final score of 11-10.
Kaden Alberghini was the one called on to close the game out, coming in during the 8th. The freshman slammed the door shut on his first save of the season.
"Cameron Dayton and Alberghini did a great job picking up the needed innings to help us get out of there with a win," coach Harrel added of his staff.
It was hard to argue for a bigger performance at the plate over Lind, who ended the game by going 2-for-5 with three RBI and a homerun. However, Hudson Shupe (3-5, 3 RBI), Trevor Antonson (2-5, RBI), and Tsoukalas (1-4, 2 RBI, HR) also had huge impacts on the ballgame.
Seattle U will be right back in action on Wednesday, March 29, when they welcome the Oregon State Beavers to Bannerwood Park for a mid-week non-conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm PT between the two Northwest rivals.
