Seattle U Claims Series Victory Over Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Tex. - Seattle U softball captured the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, taking the second game (4-2) after falling in the morning game (1-2). Tai Wilson sealed the series victory after blasting an RBI triple to center field in the top of the seventh inning. Both contests took place at SFA Softball Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.

NACOGDOCHES, Tex. - Seattle U softball captured the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) series victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, taking the second game (4-2) after falling in the morning game (1-2). Tai Wilson sealed the series victory after blasting an RBI triple to center field in the top of the seventh inning. Both contests took place at SFA Softball Field in Nacogdoches, Texas. 

GAME ONE

Izzy Dino put together a great performance in the circle to open the day for Seattle U. The senior allowed just two runs in a complete game effort to go along with two strikeouts. Dino found her groove early, sitting the Ladyjacks down in order in the first and third inning. The native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, gave Seattle U a chance to take the lead in the seventh after preventing SFA from scoring when they had two runners on.

Sydney Frankenberger logged the big hit for SU, lining a triple to the right field corner to tie the ball game at one. Tai Wilson scored that game tying run after she reached on a single up the middle.

GAME ONE SCORING SUMMARY

  • Fourth Inning: Stephen F. Austin scored the opening run on a home run.
  • Sixth Inning: Sydney Frankenberger tripled through the right side, tying the game at one. 
  • Seventh Inning:.The Ladyjacks walked it off with a single. 
GAME TWO

Tai Wilson's second triple of the year sent the Redhawks home with the series victory. Wilson enjoyed a stellar weekend at the plate, hitting 7-for-12 (.583) with one triple and three RBIs. Wilson tied Seattle U's single game hits record of four hits for the second time this season on Friday evening.

Madison Kahwaty smashed her team leading 12th double to left center right after Wilson to score an insurance run.

Naomi Chaidez had a career-best performance in the circle, setting new career-highs in innings pitched (5.2) and strikeouts (seven) as well as only allowing one earned run. Chaidez got herself going early, striking out three consecutive batters at one point and sending the Ladyjacks down in order in the first, fourth and fifth inning. 

Kalyn Hill was responsible for the first two SU runs, smacking RBI doubles in the fourth and sixth inning. Hill had a stellar weekend at the plate, hitting 5-for-10 with four doubles and three RBIs.

GAME TWO SCORING SUMMARY
  • First Inning: SFA took a one run lead on a single.
  • Fourth Inning: Kalyn Hill doubled to right center, tying the game at one.
  • Sixth Inning: Kalyn Hill doubled to right center, putting the Redhawks ahead. The Ladyjacks tie the game in the bottom half.
  • Seventh Inning: Tai Wilson tripled to center field, putting SU in front. Madison Kahwaty added an insurance run on a double to left center field. 
The Redhawks will return to Logan Field next weekend, hosting Sam Houston in a three game series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
