PORTLAND, Ore. - Seattle U men's tennis traveled down to Portland, Oregon for a dual match against Portland State. The Redhawks caught fire in doubles, and kept it going into singles, defeating the Vikings, 5-2.
In doubles, Yu-Han Hsieh and Filip Stipic got the Redhawks started, defeating the duo of Andrea Brignacca and Luka Jovanovic, 6-3. Julian Worn and Michael Frank followed up with another victory over Jonas Hembo Mathiasen and Simon Kuszynski, 6-4. Clement Hamel and Veselin Kiselkov got up 5-4 on Jan Semerak and Gregory Gruenig, but did not finish the match as the Redhawks clinched the doubles point already.
In singles, Yu-Han Hsieh faced off against Andrin Zuellig, coming away with a dominant win, in a score of 6-1, 6-3. Michael Frank would follow up with a with a win over Gregory Gruenig 6-3, 7-5.
Filip Stipic had a close match against Jan Semerak. In a match that had to go to a third set, Stipic would be defeated 2-6, 6-3, 1-6. Veselin Kiselkov had a hard fought battle against Jonas Hembo Mathiasen. Kiselkov was able to secure the victory in a score of 6-3, 7-6(5).
Clement Hamel would follow up with a close win over Andrea Brignacca. The match had to go to a third set, but Hamel pulled of the victory, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Dario Ristovski was the last match of the day, as he took on Simon Kuszynski. Ristovski battled hard, but would fall just short, dropping the match 6-7(4), 6-4, 9-11.
The men's next match will be in Seattle as they will take on Colorado College on March 24.
