ON A ROLL
Seattle U is off to its best start in DI program history through 15 games, opening the season 12-3. The Redhawks went 5-0 last weekend at the Hawaii Invitational and have won 11 of their last 12. The Redhawk bats came alive over the weekend, scoring more than eight runs in four of the five games. The pitching staff also had some stellar performances, allowing one or fewer runs in three of the five games.
Seattle U's previous best 15 game opening stretch came during SU's DII days, beginning the season 14-1 in 2008.
WAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Senior Stefanie Madrigal claimed her fourth career WAC Pitcher of the Week award after her performance at the Hawaii Invitational. The native of San Jose, Calif., went 3-0 over three appearances (two starts), posting an ERA of 0.88.
After picking up a win over St. Bonaventure out of the bullpen, Madrigal got the start against Marist and performed like she has all season. The senior claimed the victory after throwing a complete game, allowing only one run across five hits and striking out four. Madrigal ended the weekend with her best performance, throwing a complete game shutout against Hawaii.
The Preseason All-WAC selection has started the year off stellar, pitching to a 7-1 record with an ERA of 1.51. Madrigal has thrown four complete games with two shutouts over 46.1 innings, as well as holding batters to an average of .218 and striking out 22.
BASES REACHED STREAK
Both Sydney Frankenberger and Ava Sin are in the middle of double-digit reached base streaks, with the former on a 10 game and the latter on a 13 game.
As the sole true freshman in the lineup, Sin is has been phenomenal in her 13 games this season. The West Linn, Oregon, native is hitting .444 (16-for-36), leading the team in doubles (four) and triples (two). The catcher has the second highest OPS on the squad (1.202) and one of four Redhawks to have an OPS over 1.000.
After opening the season slow in the first tournament, Frankenberger is starting to hit her groove. The native of San Ramon, California, is fourth on the team in average (.368) with three doubles and a home run. Frankenberger was the Redhawks top hitter at the Hawaii Invitational, going 8-for-17 (.471) with eight RBis. The right fielder earned All-Tournament honors the previous week at the Fresno State Kickoff Classic, hitting a walk off two RBI double to defeat Iowa State.
