Phenomenal Pitching Leads Redhawks Over Bonnies and Rainbows

HONOLULU, O'ahu, Hawaii – Seattle U softball grabbed a pair of wins on Saturday, shutting out both St. Bonaventure (10-0) and Hawaii (8-0) in six inning games. Izzy Dino and Stefanie Madrigal had stellar performances in the circle with both throwing complete game shut outs. The nonconference contest took place at the RWSS Stadium in Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawaii.

HONOLULU, O'ahu, Hawaii – Seattle U softball grabbed a pair of wins on Saturday, shutting out both St. Bonaventure (10-0) and Hawaii (8-0) in six inning games. Izzy Dino and Stefanie Madrigal had stellar performances in the circle with both throwing complete game shut outs. The nonconference contest took place at the RWSS Stadium in Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawaii. 

The Redhawks are unbeaten so far at the Hawaii Invitational, winning four straight to improve to 11-3. 

GAME ONE

Madison Kahwaty got the scoring started early, smashing a two-run home run to right center field in the first inning. Neither team would score until Katie Walling came to the plate to open the fifth, hitting a solo home run to put the Redhawks in front by three. Kahwaty and Walling are currently tied for the team lead in home runs after each of them hit their third of the season. 

The Redhawks would blow the game open in the sixth, scoring seven runs. SU would score its first run of the inning on a wild pitch, followed by an Olivia Viggiano RBI single back up the middle. Madison Kahwaty would then plate a run after being hit by a pitch and Jocelynn De La Cruz would follow with a two RBI single to make it 9-0. 

Izzy Dino picked up the complete game shut out victory in her second start of the year, scattering four hits and striking out three.

GAME ONE SCORING 

  • First Inning: Madison Kahwaty hit a two-run home run to right center field.
  • Fifth Inning: Katie Walling homered to left center field.
  • Sixth Inning: SU scores seven in the inning, opening with Sydney Frankenberger scoring on a wild pitch. Olivia Viggiano singles up the middle, scoring another run. Madison Kahwaty is hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, before Jocelynn De La Cruz singles to score two more runs. Kahwaty scores the final run of the inning on a wild pitch. 
GAME TWO

This contest remained scoreless until Jocelynn De La Cruz stepped up to the plate in the fourth, crushing a solo home run to center field. Sydney Frankenberger would follow that up with an RBI single to double the lead. 

De La Cruz would earn her fourth RBI of the day on a single up the middle right before Ava Sin hit an RBI single of her own to make the score five-nothing.

Seattle U would score three more in the sixth, with Madison Kahwaty hitting a two RBi single back up the middle to score the final runs of the day.

Stefanie Madrigal was fantastic once again for the Redhawks, throwing a complete game shut out to improve to 7-1. 

GAME TWO SCORING
  • Fourth Inning: Jocelynn De La Cruz homered to center field to open the scoring. Sydney Frankenberger singled up the middle to score another. 
  • Fifth Inning: De La Cruz singled up the middle, platting one. Ava Sin followed with an RBI single to left field. 
  • Sixth Inning: Tai Wilson walked with the bases loaded to score the sixth run of the game. Madison Kahwaty hit a two RBI single up the middle to score the final runs of the game. 
Seattle U concludes play at the Hawaii Invitational on Sunday, facing off with Marist for the second time at 1 p.m. pacific time.
