SPOKANE, Wash. - Seattle U track and field competed at the WAC Championships at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. With multiple performances making the SU top-ten list, the men's Distance Medley Relay was the biggest highlight for the Redhawks, as they won the conference title and set a new school record in the event.
In the men's Distance Medley Relay race, the team of Alex Franklin (1200m), Isaiah Payne (400m), Matthew Holme (800m) and Gus Harquail (1600m) won the conference title in the event, clocking in a time of 10:00.10, which set a new school record in the event.
The race was extremely close until Gus Harquail released a blistering kick at the end, clocking in a 58 second last 400m in his 1600m leg, allowing the Redhawks to edge out Tarleton State's team by 1.89 seconds.
The conference title is the third DMR conference title under Head Coach Kelly Sullivan's tenure, as the Redhawks took the men's and women's title in 2018.
The women's DMR also had a stellar effort. The team of Emily Harris (1200m), Julie Smith (400m), Grace Much (800m), and Azalea Groleau (1600m) finished the race in 12:09.28 to finish fourth overall. The effort by the four ranks as the fifth fastest DMR mark in school history.
The men's 4x400m Relay had a great performance. The quartet of Isaiah Payne, Miguel Rosario III, Carl Christopherson, and Matthew Holme worked together to finish the relay race in 3:19.89. The effort by the team was good enough to earn them the second fastest time in school history.
Kavon Holden continues to climb up the all-time ranks in the 60m Dash. Holden sprinted to a 6.94 second finish in the race, which now puts him third in school history in the event.
True freshman Joseph Alleyne had a solid showing in the 200m Dash. Alleyne finished the race in 22.62 seconds, which places him ninth in school history in his first ever WAC Championship meet. Livii Fettereley also showed out in her first ever WAC Championships. In the 60m Hurdles, Fetterley clocked in a time of 9.50 to take seventh on the SU top-ten list the event.
The last of the historic performances came from Bryana Rogers and Ashley Hagar in the Triple Jump. Hagar jumped a mark of 10.70 meters in the event, which improves on her tenth overall standing in the SU top-ten list. Rogers jumped a mark of 11.84 meters, which was good enough for her to place eighth overall in the meet, earning her All WAC Second Team Honors.
The Redhawks will start the outdoor season next with the Oregon Preview, hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field.
