PALM DESERT, CALIF. - Seattle U women's golf wrapped up play at its opening tournament of the 2023 spring season on Tuesday, placing fifth out of eight teams. The two-day, match play style event took place at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California, on the 6,081 yards course with a par of 72.

Seattle U would drop its opening round matchup against Boise State, 2-3-0, which was a rematch of last year's championships match. The Redhawks would bounce back against Southern Utah, taking a 3-2-0 victory. Graduate student Samantha Bruce (5&4), senior Azumi Arai (4&3) and sophomore Rivekka Jumagulova (7&6) won their matchups to send SU to the fifth place match.

Seattle U would end the week with a win over Wyoming, 3-1-1, in the fifth place match. Bruce (2&1) claimed her third victory of the week, while senior Megan Kelly (2UP) took down Vogt and sophomore Annika Cruz finished one stroke better than Spiva.

Graduate student Samantha Bruce was phenomenal in the No. 1 spot, taking the victory in all three matchups. The native of Makati City, Philippines, was stellar on the first day, defeating Boise State's Chung and Southern Utah's Guibal by five strokes. Bruce secured the final victory after posting birdie and par on hole 16 & 17 to take a two stroke lead with only one hole remaining against Wyoming's Ryan.

The Redhawks will return to action in a few weeks, heading to the GCU Lopes Invitational in Phoenix from Feb. 27-28.
