SEATTLE - Seattle U volleyball has signed Tatum Chase and Naima Foster to its 2023 class, Head Coach Michelle Cole announced Monday.
"I am excited to get to work with Naima and Tatum in the fall," said Cole. "They are both driven young athletes who fit our style of competition well."
Tatum Chase hails from Catlin Gabel High School in Portland, Oregon, where she has been a member of the varsity squad all four years. The six foot, middle blocker is a three-time league champion and has been named on the honorable mention list her first three seasons. Chase has been a member of Athena Volleyball Academy since 2020, where they finished second at the JVA World Challenge and third at the SLC West Coast Invite.
"Tatum will add to our already strong blocking team," said Cole. "She'll join a group of young middles that are learning from one of the best in Mo (Mariko Downey). Tatum plays a calm, consistent style that her teammates know they can rely on."
Naima Foster is a three-year varsity starter at outside hitter/opposite for Valley Catholic in Beaverton, Oregon. A 2019 First Team All-Tournament and OSAA 4A state champion, Foster earned COWAPA League Co-Player of the Year honors in 2021. The high school senior was named Valley Catholic's most improved in 2019 and most inspirational in 2021. Foster played club volleyball for Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy from 2018-21, winning CEVA Regional Champions in 2019 and 2021. She currently plays for North Pacific Juniors.
"Naima is a great addition to our Seattle U family," said Cole. "She is a warrior on the volleyball court, with an infectious optimism and boundless energy. Advocating for social justice is a core part of her personal values and I am grateful for the chance to guide her in her development on and off the court."
