LEWISTON, Ida. - Seattle U men's tennis traveled east this weekend to take on Lewis and Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho on January 28. They also traveled to Moscow, Idaho to take on the University of Idaho on January 29. Both matches had great moments for the Redhawks, highlighted by the men being able to secure the first win of the 2023 season.
MATCH VS. LEWIS-CLARK STATE
In doubles play, Filip Stipic and Michael Frank got the Redhawks started by taking on Daniel Tevez and Maksim Matrynyi. Stipic and Frank took the win in dominant fashion, defeating the Lewis-Clark State duo, 6-2. Julian Worn and Yu Han Hsieh kept the momentum going as they convincingly defeated Daniil Felker and Declan Townsend, 6-1.
Dario Ristovski and Jayden Harrison paired up to take on Austin Swing and Andy Wu for the last match in doubles. After a hard fought match, Ristovksi and Harrison unfortunately dropped the match, 4-6. The Redhawks took the doubles point.
The Redhawks kept the dominant play going into singles. Michael Frank started off singles by defeating Maksin Matrynyi in convincing fashion, taking the win 6-0, 6-2. Veselin Kiselkov faced off against Cade Edwards, and would also take the win 6-2, 6-4.
Julian Worn had a very competitive match against Declan Townsend, after an extremely close first set, Worn was unable to secure the win, and was defeated by Townsend, 6-7(7), 2-6.
Filip Stipic would have a very close matchup against Daniil Felker that ended up going to a third set. Stipic was able to take the win, defeating Felker 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Yu Han Hsieh would dominate his matchup with Austin Swing, as he would win his matchup 6-1, 6-2.
The last match of the day was Jayden Harrison as he was set to face Daniel Tevez. The match was very competitive, and even went to a third super tiebreaker set, but Harrison managed to pull out the win, defeating Tevez 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-4. The Redhawks would defeat Lewis-Clark State 6-1 on the team score to win their first match of the season.
MATCH VS. IDAHO
After the win against Lewis-Clark State, the Redhawks traveled to Moscow, Idaho to take on the University of Idaho.
In doubles play, Clement Hamel and Veselin Kiselkov paired up to face off against Francisco Bascon and Matteo Mascala. The matchup was very close, but Hamel and Kiselkov would unfortunately drop the match 4-6.
Julian Worn and Yu-Han Hsieh teamed up to take on Francisco Gay and Taiyo Kurata, but would drop the match 2-6. Filip Stipic and Michael Frank would compete against Bruno Casino and Alejandro Salvador, but would also drop their match 3-6. The Vandals took the doubles point.
In singles play, Filip Stipic was set to face off against Francisco Bascon, but would be defeated 0-6, 4-6. Veselin Kiselkov was matched up against Matteo Masala, but would also drop his match 3-6, 5-7.
Julian Worn had a great match against Francisco Gay, taking the victory after three sets, in a score of 5-7, 6-7, 7-4.
Michael Frank would take on Bruno Casino in a close match that went to a tiebreaker set, but unfortunately was defeated 1-6, 7-5, 1-6. Yu-Han Hsieh would compete against Taiyo Kurata, but dropped his match 2-6, 0-6.

The Redhawks will travel down to Eugene, Oregon next week to take on Oregon and Santa Clara on February 4-5.
