SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle U track and field competed at the UW Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington, at the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle. The Redhawks were able to come away with two new school records in the Distance Medley Relay, as well as multiple top-10 performances in school history.
In the women's DMR, the relay team of Grace Much (1200m), Taylor Marks (400m), Maya McCabe (800m), and Azalea Groleau (1600m) clocked in a time of 11:55.21, shattering the old record by 7 seconds, which was set in 2017. In the men's DMR, the quartet of Alex Franklin (1200m), Isaiah Payne (400m), Hezekiah Goodwin (800m), and Gus Harquail (1600m) clocked on a time 0f 10:00.19, which beat the old record by 6 seconds, which was set in 2016.
The distance crew was not done setting all-time marks for the weekend. Gus Harquail would enter the top-10 in school history for the mile, as he would clocked in a time of 4:13.17, which ranks him third in school history in the event.
Emily Harris and Azalea Groleau would also crack the top-10 list in the mile, as Harris would run 5:03.22, and Groleau finishing in 5:05.30. The efforts by Harris and Groleau ranks them fifth and ninth in school history, respectively. In the 800m, Maya McCabe moved up from third all-time in SU history to second, as she would finish in 2:10.65.
True freshman Caitlyn O'Neil also made the top-10 list in the 5000m. In her first indoor track 5000m, O'Neil would clock in a time of 18:01.31, which ranks her seventh all-time in school history.
On the sprints side, true Miguel Rosario III continued to impress, as he would finish the 200m in 22.03 seconds. This would move Rosario to third on the top-10 list, after placing himself fourth all-time in his collegiate debut two weeks ago at the UW Preview. Kavon Holden would crack the top-10 list in the 60m dash, running a time of 7.06 seconds.
Taylor Marks continued her positive momentum from the record setting DMR performance into the 400m, as she would finish in 59.26 seconds, which would move her from ninth in school history in the event, into seventh.
In the men's 4x400m relay, the team of Justin Blunden, Carl Christopherson, Sebbie Law, and Matthew Holme finished the race in 3:27.77, which was good for ninth in school history.
Lastly, Livii Fetterley would move to sixth in SU history in the shotput, throwing a mark of 10.80 meters. This would be an improvement of her SU debut two weeks ago, where she threw 10.60 meters, which ranked her ninth in school history.
The Redhawks will return to Dempsey one last time in 2023, as they will compete at the Husky Invite on February 10-11.
