SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball celebrated International Night on Saturday evening, falling to New Mexico State by a score of 58-50. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) matchup took place at the Redhawk Center in Seattle.
NM State came out strong from the opening tip, scoring the first nine points of this contest. The Aggies would push their lead to as large as 17 in the first quarter before the Redhawks began their comeback efforts.
Strong defensive play in the second and third quarter allowed SU to get back into this game, trailing by eight entering the fourth. Seattle U would trim the lead to four three times in the final frame but were unable to tie the ball game up.
The Redhawks fought their way back into this game on the inside, finishing with the advantage in points in the paint (32-22) and total rebounds (35-26).
New Mexico State's Molly Kaiser lead all scorers with 17 points, while junior Peyton Howard finished with the most points on SU with 13. Freshman Mya Moore was the only other player in double figures on the evening, logging 11 points on 5-for-9 from the field. Sophomore Taliyah Clark finished with a new career-high seven rebounds to go along with seven points.
Seattle U will hit the road for two games next week, starting with Utah Valley on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m. pacific time in Orem, Utah.
