SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle U men's tennis kicked off their 2023 spring campaign in a dual match against Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Washington. After gaining the double's point, the Redhawks were unable to keep the momentum going into singles, as they would drop the match, 1-6.
The Redhawks got off to a good start in doubles. Veselin Kiselkov and Clement Hamel paired up to battle against Washington's duo of Dzianis Zharyn and Cesar Bouchelaghem, and would defeat the Husky duo, 6-3. Julian Worn and Yu-Han Hsieh would team up to Brett Pearson and Nedim Suko. In a very competitive match, Hsieh and Worn would get victory, 7-6. Dario Ristovski and Jayden Harrison would face off against Han-Chih Lin and Rikuto Yamaguchi, but would drop their match, 3-6.
Although the Redhawks would gain the doubles point, they were unable to secure a point in singles. Clement Hamel would face off against Han Chih-Lin. In a competitive matchup that went into a third set, Hamel would have to retire the match due to an injury, as the match would conclude, 6-3, 1-6, 2-3.
Filip Stipic would battle against Dzianis Zharyn, but would drop the match in identical sets of 2-6. Julian Worn would then face off against Cesar Bouchelaghem, but would be defeated, 1-6, 4-6. Veseslin Kiselkov would have a very competitive match that would go into a tiebreaker, but came up just short, as he would lose the match 4-6, 6-1, 7-10.
Michael Frank woud go against Nedim Suko, and would drop the match 1-6, 4-6. Dario Ristovski's match against would Jim Hedrikx would be the last one for the Redhawks, but he would be defeated 2-6, 1-6.
The men's team's next match will be Januar 28 as they will face off against Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho.
