SEATTLE – Seattle U women's basketball hosted its second game in three days on Saturday, falling to UC Irvine narrowly, 53-54. Junior Peyton Howard was Seattle U's leading scoring, logging a season-high 14 points. The nonconference matchup was played at the Redhawk Center in Seattle.

"We played a great game but just weren't able to come out on top," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "I enjoyed the fact that we choose to battle back after being down a lot early, with Noemie and Mya Moore providing us with much needed energy. We have grown so much since the season began and we are always looking to learn something from each play."

SU started off this matchup slowly, trailing 19 to four after seven minutes of action. A 12 point run between the first and second quarter would see Seattle U dominate in the second quarter, outscoring their opponent 22-12.

The Anteaters would begin the second half on a 10 point run but the Redhawks kept battling as Noemie Bariteau knocked down an open three-point shot in the corner to bring the game within three after three quarters. Taliyah Clark would convert on a three-point attempt to give SU its largest lead of the night (four) with 3:45 remaining but UCI would come away with the win after Nevaeh Parkinson made a layup in the final seconds.

Seattle U made most of its second chance opportunities, scoring 15 points on 11 offensive rebounds while holding UC Irvine to four second chance points. The Redhawks were dominate on the glass, out rebounding the Anteaters 39 to 24.

Freshman Noemie Bariteau played a career-high 31 minutes this afternoon, finishing with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and steals, all of which are new career-highs.

"Noemie gave us a tremendous boost off the bench today," said Barcomb. "I thought she had a phenomenal game for someone that hasn't had a lot of minutes so far."

"We played with good energy today," said Bariteau. "Our ball movement was good throughout and our ability to keep our spirits high all game helped us to stay in it."

Sophomore Taliyah Clark finished with 10 points, while freshman Mya Moore had nine to go along with a new career-best five rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Junior Irena Korolenko led the way for SU on the glass, posting a game-high seven rebounds.

Seattle U will open on a three game road trip this Friday, heading to San Diego, California, to matchup with the San Diego State Aztecs at 2 p.m.
