SEATTLE - Seattle U volleyball competes in its final two home matches of the season this weekend, hosting UTRGV and New Mexico State in the Redhawk Center on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's match will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's match will start at 1 p.m. with both matches being streamed live on ESPN+ and featuring live stats. This will be the 21st meeting between the Redhawks and the Vaqueros as well as the 18th between SU and NM State.
Saturday's match marks senior day for four Redhawks. Amaris Carter, Shanice Horn, Lauren McCabe and Ezgi Ozkan will be recognized before the contest. The matchup will also feature a limited edition Seattle U black t-shirt giveaway, with fans encouraged to wear all black.
FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS
Senior Shanice Horn and sophomore Arianna Bilby both recorded double-digit kills against Abilene Christian this past Thursday, marking their seventh and 11th time achieving that this season, respectively. Horn currently ranks second on the team in kills (157) and points scored (164) with an average of 2.71 kills per set. Bilby holds the fourth best kills per set in the conference at 3.35, while also leading the team in kills (211), points scored (242) and total attempts (661).
ALL-AROUND OZKAN
Senior Ezgi Ozkan continues to do it all for the Redhawks, recording 50 assists, 16 digs and nine total blocks over two matches last weekend. The Istanbul, Turkey, native is third in the WAC with 8.75 assists per set and leads the team in assists with 551. Ozkan has gone 18 straight matches with at least 20 or more assists.
CAN YOU DIG IT
Sophomore Erin Goya recorded her fifth double-digit dig match in six games against Abilene Christian last Thursday. The libero from Honolulu, Hawaii, has slotted into the role nicely, leading the team with 184 digs, a new career-high. Goya recently posted the program's seventh all-time best digs record against Utah Tech, logging 30 digs in the four set match.
FRESHMAN IMPACT
Freshman Chloe Lee has added some strong defensive play off the bench, posting nine and seven digs against Abilene Christian and Tarleton this past weekend. The Irvine, California, native's impressive play has been a boost to a defense that has missed sophomore Katlyn Sipes.
MILESTONES TO WATCH
Seniors Lauren McCabe and Ezgi Ozkan will look to climb up the all-time leaderboards this season. McCabe currently ranks second in solo blocks (40) and just entered the top-10 list in total blocks. Ozkan ranks fourth all-time in assists (2,066), becoming just the fourth Redhawk to record 2k assists since their return to DI.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
UTRGV currently sits tied for the top spot in the conference with a nine and one record in WAC play. Sarah Cruz and Luanna Emiliano lead the Vaquerous, with the former leading the conference in kills per set at 4.46 and the latter ranking first in assists per set at 10.71. UTRGV is one of the best offensive teams in the conference, holding the second spot in hitting percentage (.235), assists per set (12.37) and kills per set (13.46).
New Mexico State was voted preseason favorites but find themselves in eighth place at 4-6 in WAC play. Katie Birtcil and Lia Mosher lead the Aggie attack, with the former ranking secdon in kills per set at 3.43 and the latter claiming the second spot in hitting percentage (.369). NM State is strong on offense, holding the fourth spot in assists and kills per set at 11.97 and 12.92, respectively.
