SEATTLE - Seattle U women's basketball opens the 2022-23 home calender season this weekend, hosting Portland State and UC Irvine. The Redhawks will take on the Vikings first, starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, while Saturday's matchup against the Anteaters will begin at 2 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ and feature live stats.

DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORERS
Freshman Sheridan Liggett and junior Irena Korolenko both scored in double-digit over the weekend. Liggett opened her Seattle U career with 10 points against Oregon State, shooting 37% from the field and going two of three from long distance. Korolenko finished one point shy of a career-high against the Ducks, scoring 14 points on six of 10 from the field in 20 minutes.
NEWCOMERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE
SU had numerous new additions make their presence felt to start the season. Sophomore Kari Kyrkjebo filled up the stat sheet over the two games, recording nine points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Freshman Lisa Michaelsen joined Kyrkjebo in the starting lineup, finishing with seven points and seven rebounds after the opening weekend. Sophomore Julianna Walker found her three-point stroke, shooting 44% from downtown with four made three-pointers.
STEALING THE BASKETBALL
Seattle U recorded eight steals against the Beavers, forcing 10 turnovers in total. Peyton Howard tied a career-high with three steals, while Kari Kyrkjebo logged two and Ligget, Walker and Korolenko all finished the matchup with one.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Seattle U fell to Oregon, 47-90, in Eugene on 11/12. Irena Korolenko finished with 14 points, one shy of a career-high, while Taliyah Clark added nine points and Peyton Howard chipped in eight.
- The Redhawks dropped the 2022-23 season opener against Oregon State, falling 53-89 in Corvallis on 11/10. Sheridan Liggett had a career-high 10 points, while Julianna Walker knocked down three three-pointers.
- Coach Suzy Barcomb begins her seventh season in charge at Seattle U. Barcomb is one of two active NCAA coaches to have taken a team to the NCAA Tournament in all three division levels. NC State's Wes Moore is the only other coach to accomplish the feat.
- Seattle U's roster features eight newcomers, six freshman and two transfers. The Redhawks return seven players from last year's team.
- SU features four international players on this year's roster, with two hailing from Denmark (Asta Vadum Blauenfeldt, Lisa Michaelsen), one from Norway (Kari Kyrkjebo) and one from Australia (Madeline Phillips).
- The Redhawks added former Oregon standout Oti Gildon to its coaching staff this offseason. Gildon appeared in the third most games for the Ducks (143) and is a two-time USA Basketball 3x3 national champion.
