MOSCOW, Ida. - Seattle U women's swim traveled to Moscow, Idaho to compete in a dual meet against the Idaho Vandals at the UI Swim Center. The Redhawks were able to secure multiple event wins and top finishes, as well as new personal bests from the meet.
"I'm very proud of the team" said Head Coach Joe Dykstra. "We continue to make progress on execution and race confidence, and their energy and enthusiasm were great. Having four different swimmers post wins against a very good Idaho team is a good step in the right direction for our season."
True freshman Sarah Cook shined the brightest for the Redhawks. Cook claimed victory in the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, and 100 IM to score huge points for the team. In the 100 Breast, Cook clocked in a time of 1:05.22, which places Cook sixth all-time in school history. In the 200 Breast, Cook kept the positive momentum going, as she would pick up the win in a time of 2:20.21, beating the next fastest competitor by 3 seconds. This was the second all time performance by Cook, as she is now fifth all time in the 200 Breast in school history. Finally, in the 100 IM, Cook continued her dominance as she would pick up her third win of the day with a time of 59.64, and would be the only competitor to break 1 minute in the field.
In addition to Cook, freshman Nohea Kamauu picked up a come from behind win in the 200 Butterfly. Kamauu finished the race in 2:10.69 seconds, and got the win after completing the first 50 in last. Isabella Guadiamos also finished in third in the event, clocking in a time of 2:13.47.
Other event winners from the day were Sammy Mosier in the 50 Free and Lydia Genson in the 200 Back. In the 50 Free, Mosier would finish first with a time of 24.71 seconds. Additionally, Mosier would finish second in the 100 Butterfly and fifth in the 100 IM with times of 59.03 and 1:02.31 respectively. Lydia Genson would take home the win in the 200 Back, finishing the race in 2:07.54. Genson would also finish third in the 100 Back, clocking in a time of 59.50 seconds.
The Redhawks will host their Alumni Meet on Sunday November 13, and will compete next at the Husky Invitational on Friday December 2.
