PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U volleyball concludes the 2022 season this weekend, heading on the road for matchups against Grand Canyon and California Baptist. The Redhawks will face off against the Lopes in Phoenix on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m. pacific time, while Saturday's match takes them Riverside, California, to take on the Lancers at 1 p.m. Both matches will feature live streaming on ESPN+ and live stats. Grand Canyon defeated SU in four sets on opening night in the Redhawk Center, while this is the fourth ever matchup between SU and CBU.
FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS
Senior Shanice Horn broke her career-high in kills twice over the past weekend, tallying 18 and 23 kills against UTRGV and New Mexico State, respectively. Horn has really come alive offensively lately, marking double-digit kills in four of the last five matches. Horn's 23 kills against NM State ties for the 10th highest kills in a match out of WAC teams this season.
BACK TO BACK DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Senior Ezgi Ozkan and sophomore Arianna Bilby both recorded double-doubles over the weekend, marking their fifth and third of the season, respectively. Bilby logged the first double-double fo the weekend, posting 16 kills and a new career-high of 14 digs against UTRGV. Ozkan continued her strong all-around play, assisting on 41 points and setting a new career-high with 18 digs.
REDHAWK BLOCK
Seattle U logged its eighth double-digit block match of the season on Saturday, finishing with 13 total blocks against New Mexico State. Freshman Marley Hardgrave finished the weekend with 11 total blocks, while senior Lauren McCabe added 10 of her own and fellow senior Amaris Carter recorded eight.
CAN YOU DIG IT
Three Redhawks finished with double-digit digs in each match over the weekend. Four Redhawks tallied over 20 digs in the four matches, with libero Erin Goya leading the way with 29. Carter finished with 25, while Ozkan recorded one less and Bilby rounds out the group with 21.
MILESTONES TO WATCH
Seniors Lauren McCabe and Ezgi Ozkan will look to climb up the all-time leaderboards this season. McCabe currently ranks second in solo blocks (40) and just entered the top-10 list in total blocks. Ozkan ranks fourth all-time in assists (2,149), becoming just the fourth Redhawk to record 2k assists since their return to DI.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Grand Canyon ranks fifth in the conference and clinched its spot into the WAC Tournament on Saturday. Klaire Mitchell ranks second in the WAC in assists per set average (9.93), while Tatum Parrott is fifth in average points per set (3.74).
California Baptist holds the eighth spot in the WAC. Christine Graf ranks fourth in kills per set (3.28), while Chandler Gorman has the fifth spot in blocks per set (1.07).
