Hamel Becomes Program's First Quarterfinalist at ITA Regionals

SPOKANE, Wash. - Seattle U men's tennis wrapped up play on the second day of the ITA Regionals Friday with graduate student Clement Hamel becoming the first Redhawk in program history to advance to the singles quarterfinal round in this tournament. All matches took place at the Stevens Center on the campus of Gonzaga University.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Seattle U men's tennis wrapped up play on the second day of the ITA Regionals Friday with graduate student Clement Hamel becoming the first Redhawk in program history to advance to the singles quarterfinal round in this tournament. All matches took place at the Stevens Center on the campus of Gonzaga University. 

The native of Caen, Normandie, France, defeated Oregon's  August Gustafson in dominant fashion, winning the match by a final score of 6-1, 6-4. He will face Oregon's Vlad Breazu at 1 p.m. on Saturday. 

In doubles play, Hamel teamed up with sophomore Veselin Kiselkov against Washington's pairing of Brett Pearson and Rikuto Yamaguchi, defeating the Huskies duo by a score of 8-6. The pairing will take on Oregon's Breazu and Gustafson at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The sophomore pairing of Dario Ristovski and Michael Frank will join Hamel and Kiselkov in the quarterfinals, taking on Oregon's Ray Lo and Luke Vandecasteele also at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Sophomore Filip Stipic and freshman Yu-Han Hsieh concluded doubles action on day two, dropping their match against Gustafson and Breazu.
