NACOGDOCHES, Texas. - Seattle U men's and women's cross country begin their postseason campaign at the WAC Championships, hosted by Stephen F Austin. The meet will take place at Pecan Acres Park in Nacogdoches, Texas, with the women's 6k race going off first at 6:00 AM PST, followed by the men 8k at 7:00 AM PST.
The Redhawks completed a successful regular season filled with personal bests and top finishes. On the women's side, Azalea Groleau has been a consistent top finisher in her first cross country season. Groleau's finished the regular season with a personal best in the 6k of 22:06.4, as well as taking top finishes at the Lewis and Clark Invite, where she finishes eighth, and the Charles Bowles Invite, where she finished 11th.
Freshman Caitlyn O'Neil has also made an immediate impact on the team in her first colligate XC season. The true freshman popped on the scene when she PR'd by a minute and fifty seconds in the 5k at the Charles Bowles Invite. She would finish in 18:17.7, which got her seventh place in the race. O'Neil also ran 23:01.6 in the 6k at the Lewis and Clark Invite, which placed her 37th out of 261 athletes.
The men's team will look towards their veterans to lead them. Alex Franklin has been the consistent front runner for team, running a new personal best in the 8k this season of 24:52.6 at the Lewis and Clark Invite, which put him ninth all time in the 8k in school history.
Grad transfer Hezekiah Goodwin has been adding more depth to the men's team in his first season with the Redhawks. Goodwin closed out the regular season by running a personal best of 24:58.9 in the 8k at the Lewis and Clark Invite. The effort by Goodwin places him tenth all time in school history in the race, right behind Franklin.
