Redhawks Claim Top Individual Finishes in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U men's and women's swim traveled down to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon. In addition to GCU, the women also faced off against San Diego State and Loyola Marymount. The Redhawks came away with some event winners as well as top finishes on the day.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Seattle U men's and women's swim traveled down to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon. In addition to GCU, the women also faced off against San Diego State and Loyola Marymount. The Redhawks came away with some event winners as well as top finishes on the day.

Cole Lanting was the standout for the Redhawks. The sophomore would take first in the 100 Free, the 200 Free, and the 200 IM. In the 100 Free, Lanting would take the win after being in second for the first 50 yards, finishing the race in 46.90 seconds. In the 200 Free, Lanting would come from behind again as he would move all the way from fourth place in the first 100 meters, to finishing first with a time of 1:45.26. Lastly, Lanting would also come back from behind in the 200 IM, as he was in third for the first 50 meters, but would win the race in 1:55.80.

Emmett Moore would also have a top finish on Saturday in the 100 Butterfly, finishing the race in 51.95 seconds to place second overall. Moore would also take second in the 200 Butterfly, notching a time of 1:58.65. In the 50 Free, Nicholas Imig would take second place, finishing with a time of 21.28. Finally, freshman Brendan Ryan would place second in the 100 Breaststroke, clocking in a time of 59.21 seconds. The men's team were defeated by GCU on the team score, 136-65.

On the women's side, senior Michaela Day had a strong showing in the 1650 Free, getting to the finish in a time of 18:33.32, which was good for a fourth place finish. Freshman Sarah Cook would also take home a fourth place finish in the 200 Breaststroke, clocking in a time 2:23.78. Cassie Koester also came away with a top-five finish from the meet when she competed 1000 Free. Koester finished the race in 11:11.67, with teammate Manna Nelson following up in sixth with a time of 11:27.59.

On the overall team score for the women, the Redhawks defeated Loyola Marymount 142-60. They would fall to Grand Canyon, 153-30, and would also be defeated by  San Diego State, 168-36.

The next time the Redhawks will be in action is November 11 when the women's team will travel to Moscow to have a duel meet against Idaho.
