ABILENE - Women's soccer extended their conference winning streak to six after taking down Abilene Christian, 2-0, on the road Sunday morning. Kaylee Coatney and Kacey LaBoda kept the offense humming while the defense recorded another shutout.
"I am incredibly proud of the team and their effort and focus this weekend," said head coach Julie Woodward. "It was definitely a challenging road trip and they accomplished what we came here to do."
Coatney recorded her seventh goal of the season when she put the Redhawks on the board in the 29th minute off of a corner. The ball was sent into the box where it was met by LaBoda, after a touch she sent it on to Coatney who put it away in the bottom right of the goal. The Redhawks would head into the break with the 1-0 lead.
Seattle U would double their advantage in the 71st when they were awarded a PK for a foul in the box by the Wildcats. It would be LaBoda who stepped to the spot, sending her right-footed shot to the right of the keeper. The senior from Granite Falls recorded her first goal and assist on the season in the match, as the Redhawks would secure the 2-0 win.
Jessica Berlin recorded her seventh clean sheet in goal, while the team picked up their 10th shutout of the season, including their third in a row. The win also pushed their winning streak to six, during which they have outscored their opponents 20-3. They now improve to 10-5-2 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play, sitting alone atop the Western Athletic Conference standings with 22 points. The result also secures the Redhawks a spot in the WAC tournament.
"Our back line of Michele Adam, Kait Raffensperger, Gina Leete, Valentina Bernal and LaBoda have been so consistent and have provided such great leadership," added Woodward. "We are looking forward to being back home next weekend."
The Redhawks will return home for their final two regular season matches before the conference tournament when they host Utah Tech (10/27) and Southern Utah (10/29) at Championship Field.
