CEDAR CITY, Utah - Seattle U volleyball begins a four match road trip this weekend, traveling to Utah for Western Athletic Conference (WAC) matches against Southern Utah and Utah Tech. The Redhawks will face off with Southern Utah first, starting at 5 p.m. pacific time on Thursday in Cedar City. Saturday's match will have them take a short drive south for a matchup with the Trailblazers at 12 p.m. Both matches will feature live streaming on ESPN+ and live stats.
FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS
Senior Ezgi Ozkan registered her fourth double-double of the season against Stephen F. Austin, posting 28 assists and 13 digs. Her four double-doubles this season is more than any Redhawk recorded all of last season. The setter currently ranks third in the conference with 8.82 assists per set and logged her 13th and 14th 20+ assist match against SFA and UTA.
MCCABE MCCAN BLOCK
Senior Lauren McCabe recorded a season-high seven total blocks in Saturday's matchup with UT Arlington, moving her into second on the WAC's blocks per set leaders (1.08). The Wilsonville, Oregon, native leads the team solo blocks (9), block assists (45) and total blocks (54), just 13 shy of her overall total blocks number from last season. Saturday's match was her fifth this season with five or more total blocks.
BILBY RANKS SECOND
Sophomore Arianna Bilby currently holds the WAC's second spot in kills per set, posting 3.52 per set. The native of Arlington, Wash., recorded 14 kills against UT Arlington on Saturday, marking her ninth double-digit kill match of the season. With eight matches remaining, Bilby is just two shy of last season's kills leader Sierra Bartley.
REDHAWK BLOCK
The Redhawks sit third in the conference in team blocks with an average of 2.16 per set, recording their seventh match of the season with double-digit blocks against UTA. Seattle U had nine double-digit block matches last season.
MILESTONES TO WATCH
Seniors Lauren McCabe and Ezgi Ozkan will look to climb up the all-time leaderboards this season. McCabe currently ranks fourth in solo blocks (34) and just entered the top-10 list in total blocks. Ozkan ranks fourth all-time in assists (1,909) and has a chance to become just the fourth Redhawk ever to register 2,000 career assists.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Southern Utah currently ranks eighth in the WAC and will be coming into this matchup after a three set victory over Sam Houston on Saturday. Macy Short leads the Thunderbirds, posting 7.60 assists per set for sixth in the conference. Molly McDermott holds the only triple-double in the conference this season with 11 kills, 11 digs and 12 assists against San Jose State on 8/26.
Utah Tech holds the seventh spot in the conference, rolling off two straight wins over Abilene Christian and Sam Houston. The Trailblazers are lead by Mykenna Nelson (5.08) and Taela Laufiso (8.62), ranking second and fourth in digs and assists, respectively.
