SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle U men's and women's tennis competed in Day One of their dual meet against Simon Fraser. The Redhawks would see multiple event winners throughout the day.
The men started the meet with a 1-2 sweep in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The A team of William Corona, Brendan Ryan, Emmett Moore, and Nicholas Imig finished in first place with a time of 1:35.73, while the B squad of Eric Thomure, George Thiss, Cole Lanting, and Connor Barringer finished in second in 1:37.73.
In addition to the men winning the 200 Medley, they would winthe 400 Freestyle Relay in dominant fashion. The quartet of Imig, Lanting, Luna, and Barringer finished in a time of 3:08.06, which defeated Simon Fraser's A team by over nine seconds.
For the indicidual events, Nicholas Imig and Michael Luna would go 1-2 in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Imig completed the race in 20.96 seconds, and Luna finished right behind him in 21.87 seconds. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Cole Lanting picked up an impressive win. Lanting would complete the race in 47.01, which defeated second place by 1.5 seconds.
The last individual event winner from the men was Brendan Ryan. The freshman in his first colligate meet claimed victory when he swam the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 59.58, edging his opponent out for the win by .12 seconds.
The women's team also put up big performances to start the season, starting with the 200 Yard IM. Maggie Robben, Danika Himes, and Tessa Oliver swept the field in the event, finishing in 2;11.76, 2:15.51, and 2:16.50 respectively.
Isabella Guadiamos would win the very next women's event, which was the 200 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 2:12.16. Freshman Nohea Kamuu would finish second to her teammate in her first colligate meet, completing the race in 2:14.69. In addition to Guadiamos and Kamuu, Cassie Koester and Michaela Day would also go 1-2 in the 500 Yard Freestyle, where they would finish the race in 5:22.75 and 5:26.10 respectively.
Lydia Genson would score a convincing win in the 100 Backstroke, finishing the race in 1:01.16. The last event winner for the women would be freshman Sarah Cook when she took first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Cook would win the race by over 1.5 seconds, completing the race in a time of 1:07.26.
The men's and women's team will continue the dual meet against Simon Fraser on Sunday, October 16 at 9 AM PST at the Redhawk Center.
