SEATTLE - Seattle U women's soccer continued their offensive hot streak as they beat UTRGV, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Championship Field. Four different Redhawks found the back of the net, including a brace from Kaylee Coatney.
"I love seeing the way we have been putting the ball in the back of the net the last few games," said head coach Julie Woodward. "We have individuals who have multiple games in a row with goals and it's so exciting to see the goal scoring is so spread out."
For the fourth straight match, Seattle U was able to score the opening goal of the match when Hailee Rasmussen found the back of the net in the 20th minute, courtesy of assists from U'i Kaaihue and Michele Adam. They would rapidly double their advantage just 40 seconds later, when Jourdyn Curran put home a pass from Emily Bunnell. Seattle U would take that two-goal advantage into the break.
Coatney would get the first of her two goals midway through the second half off an assist from Hallie Bergford, before completing the brace in the 83rd minute thanks to the feed from Valentina Bernal. A Kaaihue goal split up the brace from Coatney, as she extended her goal scoring streak to four games in-a-row pushing the Redhawks to the 5-0 win. In their current winning streak, the Redhawks have outscored their opponents 14-3.
Not to be lost in the offense is the stellar play of the defense, who secured their eighth shutout of the season with Jessica Berlin picking up her seventh clean sheet.
"I would like to give a lot of credit to our back line of Adam and Kait Raffensperger," added Woodward. "Especially for controlling the tempo of the game and playing so intelligently."
The Redhawks will now improve to 8-5-2 and 5-1-1 in conference play, just three points off the conference leader in Utah Tech. They will hit the road for a pair of Texas matchups, starting with a showdown with Abilene Christian on Sunday, Oct. 23. Kickoff between the Redhawks and Wildcats is scheduled for 10 am PT.
