CHENEY, Wash. - Seattle U Women's Tennis began competition today at the EWU Hidden Dual in Cheney, Washington. The Redhawks came away with a doubles team win over Montana and a singles win versus Idaho.
In doubles play, the pairing of sophomore Elena Kraleva and Lola Tavcar (6-4) defeated Montana's duo of Dunlap and Sterk on court one, while graduate transfer Marja Elenova and sophomore Liliya Dimova (7-5) clinched the doubles point with their first victory as a pairing over Cabanas and Mitkova. Sophomore Jade Quintana and freshman Shuanghu Huang concluded the doubles matches, falling, 3-6, against Hietala and Goheen.
The Redhawks would continue their strong play into the singles matches, taking four out six against Idaho. Dimova (6-4, 6-2) and Quintana (6-1, 6-4) claimed two strong victories, defeating Starreveld and Dowse in two sets, respectively. Elenova and Kraleva both took similar routes to victory against Beckx and Davis, claiming the first set before dropping the second set and concluding the match with a 6-1 victory in set three.
Sophomore Mireia Fehr was unable to make it five wins after falling to Rodas, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6, on court one, while Tavcar (2-6, 7-5, 2-6) faced off against Sepken to round out the singles matches.
The Redhawks will continue play at the EWU Hidden Dual tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m.
