FRESNO, Calif. - Seattle U Volleyball won its first match of the 2022 season, defeating Louisiana Tech in four sets (25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20). The Redhawks final match of the Fresno State Invitational was played at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
Seattle U started off the match strong in set one, opening with a ten-five advantage before going on a nine-three run and eventually taking the first set by nine points. Set two was more of a battle, with the Redhawks claiming the final six of eight points after the score was tied at 19 to take a two-zero set lead. The Redhawks would narrowly drop the third set, but a Marley Hardgrave kill in set four clinched Seattle U's first victory of the season.
Arianna Bilby was Seattle U's top hitter on the day, posting 22 kills and finishing one dig short of a double-double. Coming off the bench, Shanice Horn recorded the next highest number of kills (13) with a hitting percentage of .333.
Marley Hardgrave, Lauren McCabe and Ezgi Ozkan combined for 10 block assists, while Ozkan logged a new season high in assists with 46 and McCabe finished with a new career high in service aces with four.
On defense, Erin Goya recorded a new career high of 19 digs, while Katlyn Sipes was next best with nine.
Seattle U will head to another tournament next weekend, traveling to Lousiville, Ky., to take on Bellarmine, IUPUI and Garder Webb at the Bellarmine Invitational.
