FRESNO, Calif. - Seattle U Volleyball dropped both of its matches on Friday, falling in three sets to Fresno State (19-25, 11-25, 17-25) and five sets to San Francisco (22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 12-25, 9-15). Both matches were played at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
GAME ONE
Seattle U battled but was unable to clinch a set against Fresno State. Newcomer Arianna Bilby was SU's top player in this match, finishing with 10 digs, two service aces and two kills away from a double-double. Amaris Carter converted six kills, while fellow newcomer Shanice Horn added six kills of her own coming off the bench.
Setter Ezgi Ozkan started the year strong, posting 23 assists, while Katlyn Sipes made 11 digs and Marley Hardgrave had three total blocks in her SU debut.
GAME TWO
The Redhawks looked at their best in sets two and three, claiming both points in the process. With the score tied at 24 all in set two, a service error from the Dons and a Hardgrave unassisted kill gave SU its first set victory of the season. Set three was all Seattle U, opening on a 10-2 run before winning the set by a nine-point margin.
Bibly and Horn had strong all-around performances, with the former posting 18 kills and seven digs, while the latter had 15 kills and nine digs. Ozkan did even better in match two, assisting on 40 points in the five-set thriller.
Lauren McCabe made her presence felt throughout the match, recording seven overall blocks to go along with five kills. Erin Goya was the lead on defense, logging 15 digs, while Ozkan had 14 and Sipes finished with 13.
The Redhawks are back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. for their final match in the Fresno State Invitational against Louisiana Tech.
