Redhawks Start Season Strong at PNW Invitational

NEWBURG, ORE. - Seattle U men's tennis finished play in the PNW Invitational, hosted by George Fox, on Saturday. The tournament was held at the Multi-Use Facility in Newburg, Ore.

NEWBURG, ORE. - Seattle U men's tennis finished play in the PNW Invitational, hosted by George Fox, on Saturday. The tournament was held at the Multi-Use Facility in Newburg, Ore. 

"This tournament was a great opportunity for our team to get some matches in," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "We had some good wins and some close losses with the goal for our team to continue preparing and getting physically stronger for the ITA Regionals."

On day one of the tournament, freshman Yu Han Hsieh (6:3, 6:1) earned a victory in his first match as a Redhawk, beating George Fox's Hunter Fujimori. In addition, Oliver Hall (7:6(6), 6:4), Jayden Harrison (6:3, 6:2), Julian Worn (7:5, 6:1) and Michael Frank (6:2, 6:1) all came out with single's wins. 

In doubles, graduate transfer Clement Hamel saw his first action with Redhawks. The transfer from Stetson University and Caen, Normandie, France paired with Worn (6:4) to take down Portland's Gusic and Fernando. In addition to Hamel and Worn's victory, Jayden Harrison and Oliver Hall (7:5) also claimed a victory against George Fox's duo of Banna and Whittaker.

Filip Stipic (6:3, 5:7, 10:2) and Veselin Kiselkov (2:6, 6:3,10:5) both picked up their first win of the tournament on day two, defeating Portland's Cade Fernando and George Fox's Camden Camacho, respectively. In doubles play, Michael Frank and Clemet Hamel (7:5) defeated George Fox's pairing of Camacho and Schmassmann. Dario Ristovski and Yu Han Hsieh picked up two wins together, defeating Portland's Gusic/Fernando (6:1) and Geroge Fox's Fujimori/Stone (6:4).

Seattle U will get another opportunity to compete at the ITA Regionals in Spokane, Wash., on October 6.
