SEATTLE - The Redhawks suffered their first loss at home this season, falling to Washington State, 1-2, after the Cougars were able to score a goal in the final seconds of the match.
The Redhawks were able to overcome a 0-1 halftime deficit when in the 62nd minute, Kaylee Coatney was able to put away a perfectly placed free kick by Gina Leete. Seattle U was able to level the match despite losing the possession battle and having fewer shots than the Cougars.
With the match winding down, Washington State continued their assault on the Seattle U goal, but the Redhawks managed to turn away the Cougars at every attempt. That was until the 90th minute, when a loose ball couldn't be cleared and WSU was able to tap it in for the late game winner.
"I was extremely impressed with the team and our efforts in the second half," said head coach Julie Woodward. "It was an unfortunate way to end the game but not necessarily a time I want to focus on the results"
