Redhawks Fall in Four Sets to Portland State and Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Seattle U Volleyball fell to both Portland State (20-25, 25-23, 14-25, 16-25) and Portland (26-24, 20-25, 22-25, 14-25) in four sets on Saturday, ending its four match win streak. Both matches were played at the Chiles Center in Portland, Oregon, on the campus of Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. - Seattle U Volleyball fell to both Portland State (20-25, 25-23, 14-25, 16-25) and Portland (26-24, 20-25, 22-25, 14-25) in four sets on Saturday, ending its four match win streak. Both matches were played at the Chiles Center in Portland, Oregon, on the campus of Portland. 

GAME ONE  
Seattle U led this match in team blocks, finishing with 10 to Portland State's six. Set two featured four blocks leading to points, with Arianna Bilby's solo block of Ashlyn Blotzer clinching SU's lone set of the match. The Redhawks trailed seven to 16 in set two before they mounted a five-point run that would lead to them taking 18 of the final 25 points.  

Marley Hardgrave and Lauren McCabe both posted four total blocks, while Ezgi Ozkan made it six straight matches with 25+ assists and Erin Goya logged a team high 14 digs. Katlyn Sipes (13) and Merima Smajlovic (10) both finished with double-digit digs, while Bilby (11) was the only Redhawk with double-digit kills.  

GAME TWO
Seattle U started better in this match, winning the first set thanks to a three point run that included two kills from Bilby. Hardgrave and McCabe combined for nine total blocks, helping the Redhawks to another double-digit match in blocks. 

Bilby and Ozkan both registered double-doubles, marking the former's second and the latter's third of the season. Bilby recorded 11 kills and 11 digs, leading the team in both categories. Ozkan logged 32 assists and 10 digs to go along with five kills. 

Hardgrave and McCabe combined for nine total blocks, while Sipes was the third Redhawk with double digit digs and Amaris Carter marked a season-high in kills with eight. 

Seattle U opens the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) season at home against Grand Canyon on September 22 at 6 p.m.
